003 - Brand Consistency and Why Repetition Builds Recognition
===
[00:00:00] Hey everybody. Welcome back to episode three of your Brand Growth podcast, the go-to space for smart service-based women who are ready to build a personal brand that's magnetic, meaningful, and made to grow. I'm Melissa Horvat, brand specialist designer, multi award-winning business owner, and your branding specialist here to guide you towards personal brand that actually feels like you.
So today we're talking about one of the most simplest and most powerful ways to strengthen your brand, and that is consistency. Consistency, consistency, consistency. I say this all the time to my clients and to people that I work with who are trying to grow a brand, not just in how you show up, but in how your brand is experienced by your audience.
So let's have a look at ways that consistency creates clarity, builds trust, and leads to more [00:01:00] income. So let's be real. In the online world, we are bombarded with brands every single day, but what makes others stand out from the others? What makes someone stop scrolling and say, Hey, yeah, I know exactly who that is.
It's all about consistency. It's not about. Being boring or robotic. It's about being recognizable and predictable in the best way because consistency creates trust and crust creates, creates sales. So quite often if you are scrolling through your Instagram, you'll come across a post quite often. There may not even be a.
A photo of someone in that post. But just by the way that they're speaking in that post, by the way, that that post looks, the colours, the fonts, their tone of voice, you know, straight away who they are and what they stand for. Because that is, [00:02:00] and that's exactly what consistency is, because it creates trust.
And in that, once you've created trust, you then start. Creating sales in your business, right? So if your vis visuals, your message and your tone, even your offers are constantly changing, it's becoming confusing, and people that are confused don't actually buy your product or your service. So I often see brand consistency, inconsistency, sneaking into your Instagram.
If it looks like one person, but your website feels like someone else, your logo looks like luxury, but your messaging sounds casual. Um, you use five different fonts. I think we're all people who are creating their own content in Canva will be super guilty of this. Um, five different fonts, eight different colour palettes across your content.
Your voice changes depending on your mood or your [00:03:00] platform. This doesn't mean you're actually doing anything wrong. It just means that you are really lacking clarity when it comes to your brand and the guidelines and the guardrails around your brand. So when you don't have all those brand foundations in place, everything becomes a bit of a guessing game.
So, and that's where I come in to help you. So think about your favorite brands, though, whether it's a skincare line or a podcast host or a local cafe. You trust them because of one thing. You know what to expect every time you walk in there. And an example that I have used in the past, actually, I've written a, a blog post on this is, I don't know where you live.
I'm based in Australia, but we have a chain of. Men's barber stores. Now, when you walk into this men's barber, you, whether or not you go into a shopping center [00:04:00] across one part of town or a shopping center across the other part of town, you'll always be greeted with the same experience You walk in, they'll have the barbershop music playing.
The barbers all have a very similar style, very similar haircut. The, the tiles on the ground are like a black and white checkered pattern. It's very simple. They literally have a template for when they're cutting men's hair. I swear. It's hilarious. But when you walk in there as a male and you want a haircut, you know exactly what to expect.
You know exactly what you're gonna come out looking like, and. You know how they're gonna show up for you and if they, you know, their, their Instagram, their website, it, it's all very consistent. You know how it makes you feel. And your [00:05:00] brand should be exactly the same. You want people to arrive at your website, arrive at your socials, meet you in person, and go Wow.
There's the person that I trusted online that I feel that I connected with and that person that I know. So that's where consistency is really important. I'm putting together a course at the moment called Brand You, and I'll teach you how to define that brand experience really clearly and cohesively so it feels like you every time.
And you can have a look at that more on my website, graphica.com au. But whether it's from your fonts and your colors to your voice and your tone, you start to build a brand identity that's easy to use and hard to forget. And that's one thing that a lot of people don't realize is that actually less is more when it comes to branding.
It shouldn't be hard. It should be easy to use when it comes to your socials and your [00:06:00] website, but sometimes that simplicity is really hard to forget. When it comes to your customers. So that's a really, really important tip. So here are some practical ways to start showing up consistently, and I hope you can start doing these from now.
And one of them is, is to start locking in some of your brand foundations. Take some notes on how you feel your brand personality is, its values, its voice. Um, I go through this in my course, but. Uh, define your personality as a brand, not your personality as a person, but your personality as a brand. The second start, the second point is to have some really clear guides around how you're creating your content and how that looks.
I know I've speak in, spoken in previous podcasts, um, episodes about when it comes to creating your [00:07:00] content in terms of your logo and your fonts and your colors. These really need to scream consistency when it comes to your brand. And if you don't understand your brand versus your logo, go back and listen to episode two.
'cause that's a really helpful episode. Start batching your content using templates. If you've created some templates, it then makes it really easy to continue to create consistent content. It obviously saves you time, but then it starts to reinforce that consistency. I use repetition as a tool, so you might feel like you're saying the same thing over and over and over.
But that's actually a good thing because when it comes to repetition, repetition starts to build. Uh, you know, it starts to stick in your mind when you are repeating yourself. I know that sounds kind of boring, but sometimes that's what needs to happen for people to remember. And you also need to remember that on [00:08:00] social media.
You post today and it's gone tomorrow unless you are digging back through posts. But if you keep repeating or not keep repeating the same thing, but if you have a a message that is quite consistent through your content, that starts to build trust and a reputation for what you stand for, look at your Instagram bio.
Look at your email signatures. Your website, your league magnet, are they all aligned? They do. They all sound and look like they're all part of the same brand. These are all the things when it comes to consistency and building trust amongst your audience. So a consistent brand is a confident brand. When you've got clarity in who you are and who you serve and how you wanna be seen, it becomes so much easier to show up consistently, creatively, and confidently.
So if you've ever feel scattered, unsure how to streamline your brand or messaging, reach out to me. [00:09:00] I'd love to hear from you. It is called Brand You. It's all about building all those solid foundations to help you build a confident aligned brand that makes you feel ready to grow and if you learn something from today, tell me. I'd love to hear from you. Say thanks again, and I will see you in the next episode.
